The beginning of this hockey season has been a very exciting season both in the NHL and the OHL. As expected there has been great hockey within the past month. Some of that great hockey was due to a rule change in the leagues.
That rule is:
“3 on 3”:
1. Teams play an additional overtime period of not more than five (5) minutes with the team scoring first declared the winner and being awarded an additional point.
2. The overtime period will be played with each team at 3-on-3 manpower (plus goaltender) for the full five-minute period.”
-NHL Board Govners
Found in the “Official NHL Rulebook”
This rule has changed a lot on how the overtime works. There is so much more space on the ice for the players and it is way more fast paced. There is a lot less shoot outs and the three on three adds much more excitement to the game. Each and every year we see more and more variables added to the game we call hockey, in my opinion this is one of the best.
